Thursday 26 November, 6pm to 8pm

What this module covers:

  • Where governance came from, from Cadbury in 1992 to the codes each sector works to now
  • What a board is for: purpose, strategy, oversight and accountability
  • Four roles at one table: the chair, the chief executive, the non executive and the executive director
  • Eyes in, hands off, and the four places that line quietly breaks
  • Your seven statutory duties, conflicts of interest, and what you are personally liable for
  • The board you want around the table: skills led recruitment, diversity, succession and evaluation
  • Behaviours that make a board work, the pitfalls to watch out for, and looking outward

You will leave able to:

  • say in one sentence what your board exists to do and test the agenda against it
  • describe where your role ends and the executive’s begins
  • name the duties you personally carry
  • ask a challenging question in a way that keeps the room working.
